What Exactly is the Pythagoras Theorem? At its core, the Pythagoras theorem describes a special relationship between the sides of a right-angled triangle. A right-angled triangle is defined by having one angle that measures exactly 90 degrees. The side opposite this right angle is called the hypotenuse, and it is always the longest side. The other two sides are known as legs or perpendicular sides.
